Just got a rental after having a crash last week due to someone guy pulling out of a side road infront of me while i was coming down the main road.
originally gave me a honda civic but the fuel guage broke so they have upgraded me and given me a 5 door golf gt tdi on a 57 plate
quite a nice car, first gear has nothing what so ever then you hit second and you get huge power delivery quite strange but pulls very well for a derv, will test it further later on
im assuming its the 140bhp version but how can you tell?

not easy to tell
the newer GT versions were 140 or 170 both with twin tail pipes
Thats the VAg derv delivery - all or nothing and run ourt of steam after 3800rpm

The 170 will pull all the way to the redline. The 140 will run out of puff more like a traditional diesel.
Think there might be a sticker in the manual somewhere that says the power in KW. If it says 103KW its the 140, 125kW is the 170

wrong mate
they changed this as the new model was coming out
It was hard to see the difference between 140's and 170's

is it possible that the boxes on someones options list has been ticked and opted for a 170 style exhaust?
generally if a company is going to give you a courtesey car it will be the lower spec model.

a quick look in the paper work provided reveals its the 103kw model, either way not to bad at all although the economy at this moment doesnt seem to much better then the 1.8 civic its replaces lol
really have to get used to this power delivery, im used to old skool diesels

been using it most of today and actually its quite a nice driver, although really should have just a little more pull in first gear.
was amazed at just how well it goes on the motorway, serious fast for a diesel can only imagine how much faster they are once chipped and all the rest of it

remap and a vis kit on a 140bhp makes a hell of a difference to the power delivery.
