Thats exactly what I've always thought when it comes to mileage! People think its just the engine they have to worry about but all those other things will rear their heads. Stuff like steering racks aren't cheap

Needs to lose the tints, or get some that aren't as dark.

What is the point your trying to make?

I've seen a cav (even though you started with an Astra) with more than 100k miles on it and its still in great nick, theres Corsas on here that have been cleaned up immaculatly with 100k+ miles, that look in better nick than ALOT of new cars on the roads these days.

mk4's are great cars and modern cars do last longer and i wouldnt say 100k miles is "high" parts need replacing on all cars even ones that are fairly new so....

that does'nt make sense, and has no point

so the 3 year old vxr thats done 100k will look 3 years old

but the 15 year old astra/cav thats done 100k will be fucked

I dont kno why i put cav i meant astra lol.

The point im trying to make is cars today are better engineered, the materials are better, build quality has come further, tolerances are tighter and consequently cars are lasting longer.

So what if suspension bushes get a bit worn? they cost fuck all to replace. Same with gear linkage bushes etc. They cost fuck all to replace, id rather pay 2k less for a car with 40k extra miles on it than pay the extra for a lower mileage car of the same MY and chuck a couple of hundred at it refreshing a few sloppy parts.

People that are mileage whores really bug me, why are you so bothered? cars will do 200k+ now before needing any really extensive maintenance. And engines failing is a rare occurance now, it really does beg the question of why is a higher milage car so much worse.

My mk4's on 108k miles & ive not had a single problem with it. By far the best mechanical running car ive owned. I wouldnt hesitate to own another high milage VW.
