Koenigsegg has taken the wraps off its latest project – a 512bhp four-seat electric supercar boasting a claimed 500km range and a 20-minute recharge time.

The Quant is the result of intriguing tie-up between the Swedish supercar firm and NLV Solar AG. Although it was revealed yesterday at Geneva in mock-up form only, the two partners say they are currently working to develop running Quant prototypes with a view to marketing a production version in future.

The innovative green-energy electric supercar is said to feature ‘groundbreaking proprietary technology in the fields of photovoltaics and accumulators’.

According to press released claims, the anticipated production version of the Quant will use NLV’s ‘Flow Accumulator Energy Storage’ to allow full charging in a super-quick 20 minutes – mightily impressive for an electric vehicle with a claimed 500 kilometre range, a power output of 512bhp and capable of 0-100km in 5.2secs and a 275kmh maximum. To help improve range between charges the entire car is covered with a plastic photovoltaic film.

According to NLV the introduction of its new technologies allow for a full electric drivetrain instead of the hybrid systems that are currently proposed by ‘green’ rivals like Fisker, and the mock-up revealed yesterday at Geneva has a preliminary specification that is undeniably exciting.

The car is rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel brake regeneration, ABS and ESP. It is powered by two electrical AC induction electric motors with variable frequency drive and in-line planetary step down drive, one for each rear wheel.

The twin-motor design eliminates the need for bevel gears or a differential, further simplifying the lay-out and giving constant and controlled power proportioning to the rear wheels in both drive and coast mode, NLV says.

The projected curb weight is 1780 kg with the twin-motor installation contributing only 140 kg. The FAES accumulator is said to weigh around 450 kg and contain no hazardous material or heavy metals.
