but as it stamped from one piece of material?? you'll gain weight by welding the new piece in?

No, replacement piece will be ally, and alot lot thinner - and it will mean I can re-route my exhaust.

You save alot of material replacing the well so you will save probably near on 1KG in weight.
How are you going to use Ally? Rivet it in?

yeh exactly that I've already got a welded in bar across the struts, along with welded in cage so shouldn't loose any stiffness or strength.
