Ok my cars turned out to be write off and they say its worth about £1200-£1400.
I asked the guy at the repair place if i could take my car back and then reduce the money i would get for it... to save their scrapping costs. I said i was going to take some pieces off of it.
he said if i were going to strip it then it would have to go through an authorised scrapper but if i was going to repair it then later it would need an mot etc...
So will the insurance company not let me take it off them with the insurance money taking off for scrap costs and then i can just take my irmscher bumpers off etc and then send it to a scrap yard?
Hope this makes sense as im in a rush!

so what your trying to say is there any way u can get your car off your insurance company. erm yh you could do a deal with them and have the car n some money ( ov not as much as 1200 -1400 ) but say 1000 and the car n see what they say

when i asked the repair guy this on the phone he said if i were stripping it, then it would have to go to a proper scrapyard but all i am wanting is the bumpers etc so not wanting to take the engine out and all that crap
hopefully they will let me do that and i can scrap it myself then

its your car atm, your fully within your rights to take the bumpers off before you give it to them, they cant tell you any different its the same as taking something like a cd player out, just take them off

when my mums escort got driven into, (only drivers door) the insurance company said it was a write off as it would cost more to fix than what the car is worth, my mum £600 off the insurance company and got to keep the car. (cost £150 to get fixed lol) so i dont see why you wouldn't be able to do the same

You dont have to let them write it off if the damage isnt really bad, you can organise a contract repair if you want to keep the car.
