2L 8v + carbs, much cheaper and easier.

when i started mine the most i had done was an oil and filter change, oh and watch my bro do a clutch on one of my old cars.

carbs on an sxi would be 
nobody has done it
just need a custom inlet, carbs, low pressure carb fuel pump, regulator, possibly different management, setup and your laughing.
prob still cost about £2000 though.

It depends on the engine. As Chris said, a 2.0 8v would be FAR easier as they can be just bolted on. Depends on the management and how much it controls!

yes but, I'm not sure if the standard ECU can do the ignition with out the standard inlet because of sensors and shit.
