There isnt to do with my other thread just old beemers in general.

Can someone explain the service lights (like traffic lights)?

In dads E39 5 series it was basically a countdown to when a service needed doing. In his E46 it showed it in miles.

It's like the smart servicing thing, so it measures how many miles you're doing, what sort of miles (short journeys, long journeys) and adjusts it accordingly, so you don't service it every 10k miles for example.

Probably a plug in Tech2 style machine yes. Might be a cheeky way of doing it.

On e36's
there are 5 green lights which count down, until the orange one which means you need a service then it goes to red which means you are over due and very much need a service, resetting them can be done with a paper clip bridge pin 9 and 17 turn ignition on for 10 seconds, done.

I know how to reset an e30. Short two pins out in the diagnostic plug.if thats the same on the 36?

You can do it without a tool and a paperclip

put a wire into pin7 on the diognostic port and the other end to an earth point, turn on emission for 10 seconds turn off take the wire out, job done. Service due in 15000 miles

Then buy a stamp off e-bay and sell it with FSH.
