Right, the gf is thinking of getting a new car
She is staying jap and the Evo 1 is staying and is potentially going to be used as a trackday car or potential sprinting
Now her current considerations are a Evo VI or a Tommi Mac.
For the money that she is thinking of spending she is thinking that a Skyline R33 GTR may come into the equation.
Budget is somewhere in the region of 10k top whack no more.
Now the point of this post is that i know several people on here have owned late Evo's and some own skylines. (AK, nik )
What she wants to know is how the Skyline compares to the Evo VI and how the VI compares to the Evo I. She knows that there will be a step up in technicality and costs, but she is wanting to know how much more?
What are they like comparativly performace and handling wise in standard form?
I would like the opinions of people in the know and not just generic opinions based on no fact.
This thread will also be going up on MLR and a skyline owners forum.

I really admired the Evo VI esspecially the TM edition when I was in my teens. Now though, 10yrs on they do nothing for me.

A friend of mine had this Evo 5. he payed around £6000 and sold it for neer 7. she was 380bhp and lethal quick! he said it wold have to be an 8 or 9 next time tho for comfort.

When he sold it he bought this for £8500 believe it or not and then spent £2500 on superlights, janspeed, cibies etc

he say's the coupes far better fun than an evo

EVO VI is a much much better car than a EVO I
EVO VI is also completly different to a R33 GTR. It all depends on what she uses it for. Mostly motorway driving/cruising and effortless smooth power then a stage 1 GTR would be my option. Not a R33 though just dont like them as much as R32 or 34's.
If its back road driving and more spirited driving the EVO is more suited to bumpy back roads.
The skyline WILL cost more to keep in good runnign order, but neither will be cheap.

thatnks AK. This is the kind of informed answer i was hoping for
Like I said the Evo I will be kept for the track days. The Everyday car will be used for fast road use, but she does drive alot on the motorways.
Colin as much as that would be nice, a little out of the price bracket

What part of the 10k budget didnt you see
AK: I dont know if you ever owned the skyline in standard form but what sorts of costs are we talking about here?
Would it be a fair usmption (sp) to say that a R32 GTR is as technical as an early evo or are early skylines very advance?

Noticed you said that on here a few times, Out of curiosity what is it that you don't like about the R33?

looks, weight and handling mainly.
A standard R32 GTR is still pretty advanced but I wouldt use that to say a car is better or worse. Main difference is the 4wd and 4wheels steer. They are a bit higher tech in the R33, but not noticable.
The R32 is a lot more nimble and tail happy compared to R33.R34
Costs - Main point is its a 6pot, over a 4pot engine. Comparing it to the imprezas there are fewer 'decent' priced parts... Skylines seem to incur a strange tax!!!
