Hey. I've had a quote of £734 for my 1.2 Corsa LS 16V. Aged 18 1ncb (been driving since June but had a policy as a provisional ) Anyway, It says they are unwilling to insure cars modified if you are under 25 years old. The only modification I have is alloy wheels. Do you think they would refuse? Anyone under 18 with alloy wheels insured with Direct Line? I'm going to phone up next month nearer my renewal date. Just wanted to know if anyone had similar policies with them.

Much better than £1600 i paid last year

I will be asking them. Well car has 13 inch wheels, and i've put 15 inch alloys on. I doubt that will cut it with Direct Line tho

I had a bit of a nightmare with them actually, I got a quote online, then phoned up, said the car had wheels & suspension, girl said thats ok, the price stands. Said ok i'll take it. Then when the docs came through the mods wernt listed. Phoned up & conested it & the manager I eventually spoke to said no way would they have said none extra. Took about a week to sort out & I think they had to listen to the phone call to confirm what had been said.

This doesn't work. My insurance would have been cheaper this year. But I was truthful and told them about the alloys. I specifically said that they would have been an option from the showroom, when the car was new. But I had acquired them myself and put them on. She said that qualified as a modification that I had made. I even said they are exactly the same size as standard wheels, just made of alloy and she still wouldn't have it.

I wasn't going to run the risk of not being insured for the sake of £35.

I still have the 13s as when I sell the car i will be selling it standard. So looks like my chances are very small to have the alloys insured. Wheels don't exactly do anything to the performance of the car. All these insurance laws and pretty rubbish. Ok. If this fails, do you know a good company like Direct line that will insure me for a similar price?

If you just have alloys and don't plan on modding anything else, and are a student, try Endsleigh.

i was refused insurance with direct line with alloys on,nearly didnt pay out when i had a prang, only did because they hadnt told us about it

apparently they encourage dangerous driving (bo racin') and make the vehicle more appealing to crimminals, even with locking wheel nuts

This is pretty much what I got told. However, if the alloys were on the car when it was new and I could prove that, then they would have insured it

Endsleigh were £200 dearer, and that was only TPFT, where as the quote above is Full comp with Direct Line. Looks like I may remove the Alloys

I didn't buy mine. They were a gift from my Brother. Hes learning to drive soon, and claims they are still his so He could use then when he gets a car. Plus he earns triple I do a month as he has an apprenticeship, and I only work part time 8 hours a week
