normal gearbox gears are cut at like a 15 degree angle for noise reduction and as theyre cut like that they sap power
sraight gears are straight cut, noiser but dont sap power

essentially yes, its a straight cut teeth, but uses a seperate reciver and gear, where all syncros to my knowledge use a synchronizer which drives the gear to the speed of the output shaft, which is why if you change to fast you get a "crunch" as the gear speed isnt matched to the output shaft speed

you can have a syncro or dog straight cut box, the syncro one still has syncromesh but has straight cut gears for less transmission losses it takes longer to change gear as you it still needs to match the shaft speeds. the dog box has things called DOGS usually about 5-6 of them, they are just big lumps of metal that engage into slots when you change gear, you can't change slowly with them as the dogs won't go into the slots, so you have to ram them in. this obviously wears the dogs very fast, only a few thousand miles prob not even that much TBH, a defo no no for a road car.

The difference between normal people who have Race cars (Dutch SCC is open to people with a racing license) that are prepared well, and those who turn up jsut driving as hard as they can. Also the difference between a pro (who can use these setup) and a normal guy having his days racing.
End of the 1st lap, note that the BMW isn't THAT much faster on teh straights, and thats still a tail ender car.....
Good example of a well setup race car and its advantages, oh and the driver..
