All Alpinas are autos.

VXR - Visual differences... They have a little 'lip' kit (front splitter & spoiler), Alpina wheels, Alpina exhaust, Alpina springs. Plus the wood, and Tiptronic box. Also the interior is different.. check the piping and door cards.

Edit - Needs a new Reverse light unit too Jambo. Lovely cars though, always had a soft spot for the B3's.

A-effing-pina I just knew it was when you took a picture of the Sytner sticker.

Love it.

iirc, they also did a saloon version, which makes sense, because they didn't make an M3 saloon E46.

Love it.

Maybe because it appeals to a different audience?! What would be the point of a car identical to an m3?

The engine has less power daimo, but it feels torquier and doesnt need to be revved hard to get the best out of it, its less frantic than the m3. Totally different driving style. I prefer the E46 M3, thats why i got one. But this is suited to my parents who are older and dont want a high revving manual car etc.

Mum loves the colour, she loves the interior and as i mentioned it doesnt look as bad in the flesh.

Rustyarchs = the SMG in the M3's is totally different to the auto box in the alpina, the alpina is a completely auto box, with the common "smg style" push up pull down stick movement, but with this they added buttons behind the wheel (not flaps) its still an auto at the end of the day, still have to use kick down etc.

Good fun tho

Joe it does look dated, even compared to mine of the same age, but theres something cool about it.

But then i want that Audi 200 out of the living daylights so what do i know

For people that don't get it.

You drive to the Nürburgring in the B3. You drive around the Nürburgring in the M3.

Alpina's are for 1) an age group of at least 30+, it's simply marketing - possibly older 2) they're, as mentioned, GT, cruisers, comfy powerful mile munchers.

didnt pay that much attention to the steering wheel pic so my bad, just seen the gear lever and it looked like the smg one and not usual bmw auto style R,P,D,etc also with you saying it had the controls on the steering wheel i assumed it was the same auto style as on the m3 as even though its smg and manual and auto its still auto

you ever see the big hartage 400brake 3 series, that would be fun

I didn't realise the sticker at Alpina on it just looked at the pics again and realised. I read Sytner, got all excited, scrolled down the pics and posted
