Basically I have just left my job working 11 hour shifts order picking , & i have little qualifications and i dont want to go my whole life doing Crap £6ph Wharehouse/Factory jobs my whole life.

I'm interested in becoming a locksmith or an electrician, somethieng skilled but i dont know how i could go about finding an apprenticeship type job for either, especially being 22 as i presume most places would be looking for Younger peoplet o train up.

does anyone know where would be the best place to look? ask for advice

ben, i was in the exact same postion as you, same job same wage so i left last year went to college getting a degree.
i was looking at aprenerships when i left, unforunatly ppl dont want to know you after you turn 18 as the goverement dont support ppl and buisness if you are over. so finding a aprentership is going to be extreamly hard.

I did a similar job a few years back when i was not working for 6 months and starting my own business, my dad knew the manager of a sainsbury's depot and i think i lasted a week and my mate who i was starting the business with lasted 4 days. I was getting about £6 p/h doing stupid shifts, working with immigrants that couldnt speak a word of english and it was about 1 degree's centigrade in the building at all times. Harsh times, i couldn't do that kind of job day in day out so fair play to you for lasting as long as you did.

Career wise i would say that locksmith would be the one to go for out of the two your interested in. I looked into it a while back and tehre are quite a few courses you can go on, these do cost a quite a bit but once you know what your doing you can go out on your own and start earning or get a job with a company. Its one of them jobs where people will always get locked out of there house hence you will always be needed. Whilst your learning get a delivery job in the evenings for a local takeaway or a local supermarket doing a few shifts a week.

I have loads of websites written down somewhere on locksmith courses if you want i can u2u them to you.

Unfortunatly i cant afford to go to college because i have my own home/car etc or i would love to, I need to earn as i learn.

I can turn my hand to pretty much anything really but i would just like to do something that i either enjoy doing or somethign that will better my future and give me a career rather than jsut be an extra pair of hands in a meaningless job

As said go to college, get some qualifications, it opens so much doors saying you've got say an HNC/D over piddly high school qualifications.

Ive taken 3yrs out of work to basically get on track with a good job, my earning potential will go up centerfold & ive had a home & car in that time. Im not really any worse off than 2yrs of student loans which isnt a big deal tbh when you look at the larger picture.

Bacically I couldnt get any better than min wage type jobs, got an HNC & got a job as an electrical schematic designer for council over summer earning much more than I had before & that was just after 9 months in college, I quit that to go back & get more & im on route to a job offshore now which pays pretty well.
