... Since I had my exhaust fitted..
Why can't you get the normal 'noise' from a diesel that you can from a petrol?
I mean, Compare mine to Starlet 1.3 turbo and the noise will be completly different! So an explanation would be great [/stupid question]

I'm kind of thinking down the - Induction - Compression - Power - Exhaust route...

i think its because of the diesel pump.

Petrol uses spark plugs, diesel uses glow plugs?
Different combustion method and fuel, different noise and colour of smoke coming out

Glow plugs are used to warm the combustion chamber up so it'll start easier.

Edited to say,
I thought glow plugs were what heated up diesel to ignite, just found out it's air being compressed that heats up. Good link for anyone that's interested: http://www1.eere.energy.gov/vehiclesandfuels/pdfs/basics/jtb_diesel_engine.pdf

they don't rev high so they last longer

partly because the combustion process takes longer in a diesel than it does in a petrol engine so it limits the amount of revs

I just assumed as 99.9% of diesel engines produce most their power under 3k, so there is no point taking them to 7k...

yeh the compression in them is much higher, but because it takes much longer to burn the diesel, the engine cant rev as high
