Replace the interior with nothing The seats are surprisingly supportive as standard. But I'm not sure about the VTR inlet... On VTR's, putting a Rallye inlet is better for response, so I'm guessing that will be the winner of the two. Great fun wee fookers If you stayed closer I'd of given you a shot of mine to sell you some more


Oh yeah, aren't the XSi seats similar to the GTi ones

Was just aimed at the initial poster thinking of swapping a 1.9tdi to a 1.2 petrol to save some money.

MPG, tax and all that crap might arouse some but i'd personally go for a car I enjoy driving rather than how high the mpg can go on the trip computer. I know there's others that feel the same.

lol my previous car was one. They run on fresh air and are a tin can to drive, but I grew quite fond of mine!

I need an estate next year for under £1k so its looking like a 1.7TD astra or Escort 1.8 TD

corsa sport 1.6

@ 35mpg

based on my 70 mile trip to guildford:
2 gallons = 70 miles
2 gallons = 9.09 litres
so that's £8.71 @ 95.9p a litre (what i paid last time)

so... my corsa costs 12.5p per mile @ 35mpg.

a 50mpg car would cost roughly 9.5p per mile to run...

so per year (12,000 miles) a 50mpg diesel would save £400 over my 35mpg sport.

i'm not fussed though, as most modern diesels would be losing that in depreciation alone.

I don't care about MPG, not one bit. Never have done.

Obviously different for people doing 500 miles a week, but even then I'd probably just driven slower and easier.

NO petrol equiv size/power will ever do more MPG then a diesel, thats a fact!

I recently bought a diesel (Another Ibiza boy, 130 FR)

I dont drive to work (work offshore) dont do high miles but still wanted to buy one

Much cheaper tax compared to new petrol cars (Find me a 2007 petrol car with 130 bhp that has #120 a year road tax after the hikes in april)

Power is nice, no thrashing it and great for doing long runs. I stay in NE Scotland, fine if I want to pop down to Edinburgh for a trip (3-4 hour drive each way)

So glad I went diesel, and for being diesel mine wasnt more expensive than the petrol fr models

And diesels you always have the option of a remap for more power and even more torque!

I have owned a 2.0 petrol 206 GTI and now own a 1.9 CDTi Astra SRi. When I decided on the astra, it was a choice between the 1.8 140 petrol and the 1.9 150 diesel. When I drove both, the astra felt like it was in a different league. ver smooth power output and felt a lot more than 10bhp more. The positives of the diesel way outweighed the petrol

DIESEL ==> PETROL
£125 tax ==> £250 tax
£600 insurance ==> £700 insurance
40-50MPG ==> 30-40MPG
150BHP ==> 140BHP

I also think people look too much into the additional premium commanded by diesels. Yes, I paid £1000ish more for the diesel than the petrol but if I keep it for 3 years, thats less than £30 per month. Also, people forget that when you sell it, it will also be worth a lot more than an equivalent petrol

I am glad I went for the diesel

My golf was cheaper for me to run as the petrol than the diesel one.

Got Astras now. Had a 06 1.6 Twinport with a drinking problem. Now got an 08 Sri derv which does 38mpg apparently. I still miss that golf I had though

Diesel engines are also alot stronger, and generally more reliable and high miles on a diesel, vag in particular is nothing nowadays

i agree but think the 1.9 CDTi 150 is better and a very under-rated engine

if i was doing silly MPG i would be in a diesel, but seeing as i cover a whopping 6 miles a day i bought something that could be better on fuel, but even then an average of 30mpg isn't shocking.

as hammer said i'd rather buy a car i enjoyed driving (which happened to be a petrol) rather than the costs of the thing and until my circumstances change i'm likely to stay the same
