they remove factory restrictions and improves exhaust flow.
same as a normal aftermarket one i guess

group N are rally car groups, so more than likely the exhaust will be on the legal limit for noise

yeah.. wikipedia says its to do with production race cars.. its the group they belong to.. have to meet certain criteria

Yea my GSi came with a group N lexmaul exhaust on it. Had no centre section silencer and the backbox had very little in the way of sound absorption.
As said above, basicly for rallying. getting the gasses out with the minimum fuss. Noisy though!
