Whats the maximum penalty for getting caught riding one in say a public field? Would they only take it off you or is the penalty more serious? Where can you actually legally ride them?

Legally you have to be on private land with the land owners permission
Not sure on fines and such though

I got caught on bike before, there was a few of us though (dad/uncles/brother/cousins and so on). I was riding at the time with about 3 other people, nothing was said to me but other people just got a warning and if they saw the bikes again on public land within a year they would take them away.

Surely as its not a public road registered vehicle they couldn't do that?

I used to have something similar to a mini moto. Police caught up with us anywhere we went on them. We had a little talk about the moto's themselves, told us to walk them home and all was done with.

This is what i got.
Basically for the first offece, you dont get just a telling off. You get a £30 fine and if you are caught on the bike again, or any other vehicle off road the vehicle is then seized and destroyed and you get another larger fine.
Basically the order is for 12 months on both the person and bike. They take all details of the bike (Frame numbers, engine numbers etc) and are logged on the police database.
