Best thing to do would be list the cars, then go to parkers 7 find out mpg, insurance group, power and so on.
I'm tempted by TDi A4 or Bora at some point in the future.

i used to have an R reg A4 just 1.8 non turbo.
was a nippyish motor but was shit on fuel though

The T5's are asking far too much money and they all have 150k +
Have a look at saab 9-5 aeros, just as fast as the volvos and better interiors.

ive got the pd130 passat and love it. feels nippy and returns a god 48/49 mpg. used to have the 1.8t so have experienced both and tbh the amount of money i save on the fuel id take the derv! Not only that the 1.8t didnt feel any quicker so not worth the extra expense!

What about an A3? 1.9tdi engine is good.
But if you want a bit more power, then go for the 1.8T but make sure it is quattro
