Dione J it aint the fans that need replacing, it's an electrical fault. You can get a box for £80 that sorts out the electrics.
Its the slow speed resitor in the actual fans, or if you're lucky its the relay box or fuse on the battery.
If its the resistor in the fans then its 300-400 to replace them or you can hard wire in a modded resistor board which will last longer than the car for a few quid.

Arnie, yeah most dealers don't care if it's under warranty and will replace the lot. Costly if out of warranty though

Common faults:
Open the bonnet, start the car and turn the aircon on. The fans in the engine bay should spin slowly. If they don't spin slow, but instead pulse on and off at high speed (might need to let it run for a while to see the fast spin), then the fan assembly needs replaced = £300-£400 at a main dealer.
Make sure the carpets are dry, the Leon door seals often perish and let in water.
Check that the rear wash doesn't follow the wiper. It should always spray in the middle. If it follows the wiper, then it has begun to corrode and will soon wet the boot.
Check the brake disks and pads - if they need replaced soon it can cost a fair bit.

Edit: climate/aircon probably wont be as cold as it can be either.

i love the look of these cars and they are supposed to be very quick and punchy on the road for what they are(hot hatch i guess)
probably wouldnt buy one though, read quite a few owner reviews and around a 3rd seemed to suggest their LCR had been fairly unreliable with electrical faults and a few leaks been common

Very good choice mate
TBH i've had my cupra for just over 6 onths now and never had 1 bit of bother with it (touches wood).
Its just cost me £180 for 2 front toyos which aint to bad when you consider there 18"
The 40k service cost me £266 all in including new wipers front and back so it aint that bad on price.
The next purchase with be front brakes which will cost me £320 without fitting now that stings a bit but uprated 323mm discs and pads aint exactly cheap but more than worth it imo.
Just make sure you find a good lowish mileage one and make ure it has every reciept and stamp in the book that will give you a good indication of how well its been looked after.
My mates just bought a grey one from the local Seat dealers with only 27k miles, koni FSDs and eibach springs, forge DV and a cat back milltek exhaust for £7995. Total barginand it also has a full years warranty thrown in so just keep your eyes peeled for a good one
Watch out for the Onvi yellow ones with bad paint fade

Shows Dealers are always worth a visit.
TBH everyone always said Seat are quite expensive but that doesn't seem too bad, infact nothing more than average.

Does anyone know the difference between the 2005 shape Seat Leon FR and the cupra (Not the cupra r as I know how that differs )
They are both 1.8T 180bhp but one is 'cupra' and one is FR ??

My understanding of it is that the Cupra and FR are the same, it used to be called Cupra but nowadays they call it FR.
But to also confuse things, there are differences between the 2, I did a search on Google and this came up, should explain all:

insurance is quite cheap tbh, i have the ibiza cupra 1.8 20vt and im 18, 1yncb and it costs me 1600fc alot of car for money too i think seeing as i paid 3400 for my minter.

That's not too bad if that's for your own policy. Obviously alot of money for insurance but if it gets you a fast car at 18 then it's worth paying rather than £1000 on a tatty MK3 Fiesta like alot of people do.

they brought out an FR+ in 2005 which was basically an FR with the cupra r bodykit on it.. is that the one you are on about?
seen a few people trying to sell diesel versions for silly money... like 12k an stuff
