Depends what you are selling. I've done a few, and it's not actually bad! If you're with a decent crowd the banter is brilliant!

Cut throat, fail to meet targets and you are out the door. Having to deal with people like my mum who hangs up on you and is very blunt.

I've done it, gas and electric, to businesses though. With sales you are either good at it or your shit.
The people I worked with were the the best ever, banter was top, the job itself was crap though. Worked there 3 month, 100 ish calls a day (although spent most of it at water cooler or skiving as i hated it) sold 1 thing .
The people who were good at it made decent money though, to be fair.

I would rather do inbound sales than outbound

If people try and sell me things i usually hang up too

I wouldn't do it unless it was selling something that people want. EG sky at a really good rate/package etc. If it was some crap that I wouldn't want i'd find it hard to attempt to get people to buy it.

I lasted 30 mins in a double glazing one.

What I was selling was genuinely a good deal because of the way the energy market works, nobody believes you anyway.
I can remember doing a lady a quote, worked out that she would save about £700 a month (They had loads of premises), she still didn't sign up.

I could do it with my eyes closed, but I wouldn't want to do it for more than a week unless I had to. Soul destroying.

Different forms of telesales tbh.
There is a place in Flitwick (near me) that does it. Students from Uni work there. They ring people up at 9pm on a Sunday etc selling shite and is totally scripted.
The 2 people at work are technically doing Telesales, but are called 'Lead generators' more. They do cold calling off of raw data, as well as following up calls and keeping on contact with people. This type of thing can also be known as "Account Executives".
Then you have inbound i.e. working for O2 or something.
You'll generally work out if you like it by what you'll actually be doing.

I ocassionaly cover and do telesales.. infact i was this morning.. its a piece of piss the majority of the time.. well unless someone rings up kicking off.. I got a right earful earlier for someone elses cock up and when i asked if he or the other guy could have a word they both scarpered out the office and left me to deal with it.
Redundancies are on the cards too just got a 4 page letter.. we knew it was coming.. we had had a brief announcement a few weeks back.. but this time we have times for reviews with our managers and a questionaire to fill in to help come up with ideas.
At least my punto is on a boat and due in 3 weeks
