I joined in '99 as an avionics mech, 2 years on Harriers then back to training to be an avionics tech. done a few more years on Nimrod R1 then jacked it. now work for bae systems on typhoon final assembly.

don't forget that when you leave you will need to find another job and there aren't that many jobs for 'bombheads'.

Also armourers get a bit of stick from all the other trades as they seem to be a bit thicker haha. in all seriousness though, it isnt that glamorous. you walk out to the line, clip a bomb to the wing then walk back in. not the most intellectually challenging job. avionics on the other hand has lots of challenges and fault diagnosis.

when i left in '05 they started a new scheme called "AMM's' i think. Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic. not sure if that's still the case but it meant you joined up and spent a few years as a 'liney' (the best years you will have in your career) then you choose which trade you want and go train up.

All said and done, if you want a good, well paid job join up, but be prepared to have to spend most of your life at war, and living in a tent in the desert is shit.

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.
