Speaking of that how much is health insurance in the states for an average person (not some obese dickhead, obv will be huge)? How much is a doctor's checkup etc? Just wondering whether I could argue in some of my essays about the benefits of using an American system over the current....

8 year student visa to start with but now have a green card so here for ever though thinking of coming home for a few years with the girlfriend (she is american) then coming back

Well...
My tax pays for drunken thugs to be patched on a fri/sat night. I may occasionally use the hospital, say max 1 in every 5 years. Im not getting my moneys worth from the NHS. My parents works for the NHS, to say the funding is a shambles is an understatment.
Or
Go to America, pay for it if you do not have a job or are a bum, or have it covered under health insurance if your working.
I'd take the US way.

To call an ambulance is $800ish then they charge you $5 a mile to the hospital.
Medication ranges from $14 for a month for one of mine to $1300 for the month.
I am covered on insurance and have to pay a 'co-pay' so $50 to see the GP but without insurance it would be around $200 before they give you anything
MRI was $1800 and chest xray was $800 and an ecg was $400 so a trip to the ER mounts up to an average of $4000ish before they do anything.
And a hospital bed is around $3000 a night so you do not want to stay in unless you really have to.
Insurance does not cover you for everything so you really have to watch it.
Unless you get it though a work but then your wages are less as they think of it as doing you a favour.

Pre-Med and Med though so worth it in the end.
my lectures are 6.45am-8.30am and 6.00pm-8.15pm though so it means I can have a full time job as well.

if they are secure then drive trough ATM's are a top idea. just got to make sure crims don't come out of nowhere and snatch your money as they'll be long gone by the time you get out your car and chase them.

Also because the fuel tax is low don't think your not taxed on loads of other things.
If you own a car you have to pay property tax on it every year @ $5.00 per $100.00 of the assessed value.
And that's on Automobiles, trucks, buses, motorcycles, motor homes, trailers, semi trailers, and boats.
As I got screwed on a horse trailer.
Is just one example of how your screwed.

Much rather the UK system tbh. Sure fuel tax is high, but not much else to moan about is there?!
Those US hospital bills are fooking scary!!
