its a ford mate. Its part of the fun of owning one. depends on whether you pick a good one up. you get what you pay for.

there reliable if there standard and you make sure its always topped up with oil and left to warm up and cool down

but bear in mind there nearly 20 years old, and muppets have upped the boost and most have been run ragged so expect to spend on maintenance.

great cars though loved mine. but needed a lot of money spending dont get one if moneys an issue.

i sold my escort bonus turbo to get my 1.0 corsa (only down to the petrol prices)

if you get a decent one (quite hard as there are alot of shitters out there) but if you can get one thats been treated well, just make sure you do the same and dont what so ever cut corners with turbo'd cars as something will go wrong...

Also, may be a good idea to get one from a ford owners site/forum as you may be able to see a progress thread on the car to see how it has been treated.

Buy the best you can.

It should be reliable but if it's making anything on the considerably north side of standard power you'll need frequent gearbox rebuilds.
