As some of you may know, I am currently on the hunt for a new car and these have really caught my eye, 1.9td and good insurance band.

Are there any problems with these I should be aware of ?

Or even any other suggestions on cars ? must be 1.4 or less if petrol, group 5-6 insurance and CHEAP lulz

My mate had a 1.6 8v GLX as a first car. That went ok.

And with regard to French build quality reliability etc. After about 4 months of owning, his service light came on. He continued to use it for another 8 months without having it serviced, only fixing things that went wrong, which was only the exhaust and it never let him down.

If you get one, it needs to be a facelift one.

A few of my mates have had these and they have done them proud. Nice car really and if there looked after they tend to be reliable.

Only thing I know of though, is the 1.9td engine tend to blow the headgasket easily from experience, and it seems once they go they go a few times. I know of one thats done it 6 times lol.

Ha Ha Ha! where to start.........

Had an XLDT, very good insurance etc, not to slow, got good torque but the low down grunt is abit lacking compared to some of the other manufacturers equivalents. The turbo lag is long with a capital L! but if you keep them wound up and learn to keep it in the turbo band they go very nicely. you can get 600miles per tank if you drive carefully.

The bad points, poor build quality, electrics, interior (unless you get a sportier model), can be incredibly unreliable even if looked after (mine was and i wanted to take a sledge hammer to it) its still sitting on my drive if you want it!!!!

Good cars when good, very bad when bad, I could go on but would be here all day!!

my mate has an S reg 1.9 DTurbo and I honestly love driving it, tis lovely to drive, not a bad motorway cruiser - much nicer to drive than a corsa, tbh you have to remember its french I suppose.... still I'd buy one.

edit: I forgot he has a 1.6 before that - that wasn't so nice - never drove it though.

had two and their both french shit

seriously though

the dturbo was good engine wise as is the gti but the french build quality lets the rest of it down

the dturbo was quite bomb proof till i went bridge jumping

watch out for dodgey locks as its a common fault and the heater matrix wasn't the best as it kept getting air locked

id have a 306 dturbo over another 1.4 petrol car

dont just go out and buy the first 1.9td u find, take your time and find a good one, engine mounts, air bag light, elec windows and as daz said...heater matrix are some of the main problems.
