Just after a quick bit of advice on a work issue.
My girlfriends got a day off today but been told she's got to go in for a staff meeting tonight 6-8. She's not going to get paid for it and it's out of her normal working hours (7.30-6)
Does she have to go to this

My mum had to do this all the time pissed her right off.

Legal you don't have to go but the manager made her life hell if she didn't

when i started my job the contract said something about being expected to turn up for extended hours from time to time, i think that is to cover for things like this.

you say she had a day off.....was this a day that she booked off or one that is in her scheduled hours? if she booked it just say she';s gone for a day out and won't be back til late.

Surely the extended hours thing that you can opt in/out of applies to paid work though (unless on a salary)
Was just the day she was given off. Had the same situation last week and a couple of weeks before that

just tell her to say she's busy as she made plans due to her knowing she had a day off. blame some family issue for her not attending. i'm guessing they only just told her to come in tonight?

She's decided she isn't going. Read through her contract and employee handbook and doesn't mention anything about it.
Cheers for the advice though guys

tbh it comes down to how she views the job - if she is just there for the short term with no interest with moving up within the company then dont go. If she sees it as a long term prospect then she should get her ass there.

I think if it was a regular thing it wouldn't be an issue it's more the fact that she gets told at short notice and they always seem to get arranged for her day off.
Just text me to say she's looking at other jobs
