Anyone know or got a link to 'official VOSA' penalties for illegally tinted windows
I've heard that you can get points if they're very dark or they're thinking of introducing points very soon, i know it's a definite fine but not sure how much either
Just want some official confirmation of this....not 'my mate ses' etc
Anyone?
PS> this is not a thread to discuss what tints are/arent illegal so please no '70% on front' etc etc i'm interested in what you can get done for it

my mate says....
just tried searching google for you but nothing came up , would quite like to know this aswell...
i do know a few people have had to go to court because of window tints being too dark on the front (but assume thats just for the fine)

When I got stopped by VOSA for my window tints.
You get given a notice to say your vehicle is not fit to be on the road.
I had to drive straight home, take out my windows, swap for standard ones within 7 days.
VOSA then send someone out to check your windows again, and remove the notice from your vehicle.
You then go back and re-fir your tinted windows.
Basically your not allowed to drive your car until they are removed, have 7 days to remove them and get them re-checked by a VOSA agent.
NO points, NO fines by VOSA only the police can fine you or give you points for tints, but this would be a harsh penalty unless you have had previous warnings.

Same here. Told me to get my car off the road by a certain time that was written on the form, which gave me an hour to get home, which was fine. I also got a £30 fine. Paid the fine, got them tested again at the police station, then went and got more tints fitted

No, but to be perfectly fair, light smoked tints don't actually affect visibility that much.

It was on your ring road where i was stopped aswell Never had a problem down here
I tried to be cheeky, i swapped my windows with some clear ones and then was going to put the tinted ones back in after i got the prohibition lifted. But i scratched one to buggery

I got mega light smoke one's second time round. Got pulled about the number plate on two occasions after and they never mentioned the tints. I've had my share of fines
