Totally different cars! If you are looking at an S3 then I dont think a Clio 182 will float your boat.
The Clio 182 I test drove didnt impress me too much, love the look etc just didnt feel quick.

Good cars S3's had two now.
They're not the best handling cars about, 182 would handle much better.
Power wise there isnt much between a standard 182 cup and an S3, raced a few.
The remap makes all the difference though, totaly transforms the car, you will need a brake and suspension upgrade thought and remapped S3's EAT clutches at atleast £500 a time.
Very comfortable cruisers though, nice on the motorway, dont expect to see over 25mpg unless you drive like a nun 100% of the time.
They are expensive to run, post 2001 will fuck-you-over on tax and servicing costs and parts are pricey.
Which is why the market is currently flooded with them and they are not selling, prices have rapidly dropped over the last 12months so you can pick up a real bargain at the moment but prices will only fall even more!
My two - sold the 2nd one just at the right time, prices have fallen so much lately
