as pople probably allready know iv been looking for a new car for a few months now and not sure what to get???
iv ruled out the punto gt as they handle like sh*t and theyre not that fast, so iv been told... dont like glanzas... maybe a 106 gti but a bit harsh on insurance at 19 however i absolutely love r5 gt turbos. if kept standard with just some old school weels and nice and clean interior and exterior theyre gorgeous IMO this makes me sex wee

. theyre much cheaper to insure than a 106 gti (unsure why lol)... are they as unreliable as everyone would say?? is it just a case of finding a decent low miler with some history if poss...? bottom line are they reliable and are they quick!!??

The main problem you find with them are they have been tuned. Badly. What most people seemed to do with them is wind on the boost and giving them death

They are nice cars but very unreliable as far as I know, a girl at work her fella had one and after two months he only actually had it on the road for a month I think in the end he just gave up!

I've also heard that there is quite a bit of turbo lag aswell

Go for it mate, you will have plenty of fun and cheap tax! although I'd imagine that the mpg isn't going to be brilliant

I'd buy one, for sure

But only if I had the money to make it nice, as they are getting pretty old!

Ah, my old R5GTT Loved it!

Ended up being a bit 'too' old school in the end tho. Manual choke, gash interior, etc.

Imo Renault 5 gts sort the car enthusiasts from the boys. Yes it will cost money to keep on the road, yes a saxo will be more reliable..but when an R5 is going well you'll love it. They're not the most technical of vehicles either, a good way to learn basic mechanics. I only managed four months with it as my main car though before making it a second car. Are you hardcore enough? lol.

Then I say go for it.

To be fair to mine, it is a shit heap...but I commuted 65 miles a day for four months in it and it never let me down. I would say that there isn't many things more worrying than an R5 doing 115 mph on a private runway. It is old, it will shake, it isn't well made. Keep it below 80 lol.
