some people in N.I go across the border where their agricultural diesel is green so is not as easily seen by the eye but will still come up when dipped.

Even if you just put one tank of red in there will be red dye staining the fuel system so it can be detected later on in the vehicles life.
Not worth the risk tbh as they charge you pack taxes and everything!

My old 306TD was ran on red for most of its life even before i bought the car
doesnt do any damage or anything still runs the same, around my way everyones getting checked the now, £500 fine and you get the car taken off you.
not worth the bother.

its a £500 fine first time you get caught
Not bad that, I spend an average of £75 per week on diesel which would be cut to £37.50 ish so it would take me around three months to save enough to pay the fine, and considering I have never heard of anyone being dipped around my area its not that big a risk

It's more often farming communities that get dipped. Providing you keep it quiet and don't go mouthing off in the pub - you should be alright.
But like someone has already said - the dye will be in the system for quite some time after using it.
I've never used it, as I don't do enough miles to warrent the risk - but I say go for it if you're doing a few tanks per month.

If your driving a battered old car, covered in mud and wearing a boilersuit your probably likely to get dipped
If you get dipped at a later stage though, and stopped using red diesel and it still shows up whats to say that you cant just say the previous owner mustve used it?
