Exactly, least she had the brains to hand power to someone else.

As has already been said a couple of times, people mistake intelligence for degrees and qualifications, they are not directly linked in my experience.
From school as an example, I know of 2 girls who were regarded to be the smartest in the school, got all A's etc.
Their whole lives consisted of going to school then going home to study, this doesn't mean you are smart, it means you have no life and go home and memorise stuff.
They totally failed at life because of this.

exactly john, the real world is not made up of geometry and pie equations. they would have had the fright of their lives when they turned up for their first day of work in the real world

Agreed again. I've always believed that exams are more of a memory test as opposed to intelligence.

I could ramble on for days on my views on the education system.
School and most uni's are about getting you to pass exams, always bugged me

What type of engineering Brett? Are you a quality engineer, designer, operations manager etc?
Where do you work, big multinational company or small local business?

It's not about what your pieces of paper say, or what letters and numbers you have written on them. It's about what's in your head that counts. In a lot of cases you need the right bits of paper to get the interview to show people what you're really about.

I agree with alot of the comments in this thread
A lad at school got stright A's at GCSE 3 years ago and he's still working in Woolworths
I'm currently in a dead end office job where alot of people also have degree's etc. The guys with the degrees are genrally shit at thier work and I'm constantly sorting the shit they've messed up.
I decided I'm still young to do something and I'm starting an Apprenticship with british gas this month

To a certain extent, but I don't think it's incredibly important.
I'm getting paid more than people who slaughtered me in GCSE's at school mostly because they are shit at being in 'the real world' and would prefer to be couped up in a classroom, so life skills are important too.

I never went to college or uni and was earning £30k+ at age 18. I call that clever.
wtf. how? thats unreal money to me

Im one of these university types (im doing Accountancy and Finance). I had the notion of going to accountancy in a years time when i finish, i now know I need at least ANOTHER 3 years after uni of training to start earning any sort of money and I cant be fucked with it, im fed up of not earning a wage, im 20 now, 21 when i come out of uni.
Hopefully my qualifications will help me get into the financial/banking sector easier than i would find it without qualifications.
A lot of the people I go to 'school' with are dickheads who havent got a clue about life skills that have been mentioned in here. The majority will end up, as has been said, working in Woolies or whatever dead end

Is that a slight exaggeration?
I'm working at a shop part time whilst i'm at college, boss is a millionaire and can't spell AT ALL. Everybody else has to do it for him.
