Looking at getting into a bit of DJ'ing - something to do over winter on the long dark nights

Noticed a lot of people are fully digital now, with like macbooks & mp3

what would be the best way to start off, fully digital or with a nice set od CDJ's?

I used to, i've got a full digital Dj'ing system that never gets used now though.

Stanton STR8-100 TT's, PCDJ Scratch Software and a mass of high quality mp3's.

I've been mixing for the past 7 years. Alot of dj's will say if you use digital then you're not a real dj. Personally i wont use anything but turntables ( technics 1210's ). Digital can be so easy & in some cases you dont really have to do anything, there are programs out there that will do the mixing for you, thats not djing.

Wrighty, you are best getting some decent cd decks and learning on those.
The good ones emulate vinyls so if you can mix on them you would quite easily be able to transfer the skills to vinyl and visa versa (minus a couple of hours getting used to the odd differences.)

People who dj but refuse to use anything but vinyl, laughable, unless they have deep pockets and king kong carrying around all their vinyls. End of the day its about the music you play and how you play it, not the media it's on.
Agreed Luke, some things take it too far though.

put it this way, cd's & digital have killed vinyl sales which some generes depend on. Thats what annoys me about the digital ere. it takes much more skill in my opinion to master the art of turntableism. Each to ther own though.
