My mate used to have his front number plate as a sticker on the front of his bonnet. Never got pulled once for it. Whether that's legal or not, I don't know.

I had a standard font/spaced number plate in my window and I got pulled a few times and got producers. Very annoying. So no.

I suppose if you saw someone mugging someone in the street then you'd assume he was getting away with it and anyone could do it? Don't be thick. Just because you've seen him with it like that, doesn't mean he's got/going to get away with it. You have to have a front plate.
Hardly petty either tbh People shouldn't modify their cars in stupid ways so legal requirements can't be met.

its a standard plate, totally legal.
but on the bumper it can be snapped by a bug hitting it at 70mph. the only 2 small flat bits is where its mounted,"2x 5p bits" the rest is totally unsupported and sticks out
i wouldn't care. if its legal in the window ill stick it there, if not ill tigerseal it to the bonnet,

a lot of cars come with the plates stuck on, you can get some double sided tape thats got about 2mm of foam between the 2 sticky sides, if you clean the plate up really well and do the same to the area you want the plate, you can pretty much stick it anywhere and it is really strong, infact its so strong, if you put it on right you will snap the plate trying to pull it off, main dealers use this method quite a lot, hope this helps

the good thing about this stuff aswell is its instant, tiger seal takes hours to go off

Not sure if this helps, but the plate at the back of my A4 is stuck on with some sort of foam with two little screws supporting it. Got any pictures mate?

this is where the plate sits now, the bumper is totally curved so no matter how i attach it to the bumper its gonna get broken,
hence why im asking is it legal in the window

I'd say a piece of foam that is the same length of the plate would stick it on fine. Not sure on the legality of having a plate in the window, but I'm sure it's frowned upon in the eyes of the law. AFAIK it needs to be in clear view at all times.

i cant really see coppers being funny about it even if it is in the window as its not something the police would see as a "boy racer car" you will maybee get told to sort it out but you never know, there is those coppers out there that will give you a ticket for not pulling over to fart.

Would you be able to file the sticky out bits down and then use foam pads to stick it on with, so it curves with the bumper? Assuming it's not a huge curve that'll snap it

mark come and see the bumper, one side is a inch an a half further in than it should be.
hence why i want it in a less high impact area
