Ed is right tbh, if it was recently rebuilt (properly) they shouldn't go.

Do you still have the engine? Check and see if he has used the right size bearings if so.

Sounds like lubrication problems though. Even if the engine oil level is ok, this doesn't mean the oilways in your crank are.

I'd just say the cause was the person that built it didn't have a clue.
