i would have a gt tdi but not a golf i like the seat leon but they are expensive

Has to be Mark 4, Golf GT TDi - but with that budget will be high mileage.

Looking at round 48-50MPG though

Nah, I gad a focus tdci before my ibiza, I hated it. found it slugish and handled like a shopping trolley.
