I know the engine isn't air cooled, but this is still amazing

Take one VW Typ147 "Fridolin"

Do loads of metal work

Fit some massive brakes (those are 20" wheels)

Make new rear arches

Fabricate your own double wishbone suspension

Oh, and fit one of these for good measure

I'd love to be able to do any of that

How is that not going to end up in a big fiery ball of death though?

I'd imagine 400 and something bhp in a tin box will be quite deadly

My boss was telling me about these, heated the wood/coal til it released methane, then that was pumped into a carb to run the engine.

Is your boss called Adolf, or Ferdinand?

Quite clever for the thirties IMO, they tried electric power too, as well as acetylene and all sorts of different types of gearbox.

I believe thats almost how you can make synthetic petrol.

Either way, a W12 is definitely a safe choice when you are thinking of what to upgrade your old air cooled lump
