i got it for 12k (aberdeen is more expensive for everything) and im only 21 so insurance is 700 a year fully comp with 5 years no claims

S3's arnt bad cars, ive had two now, my last one being my favourite, only sold it because it made sense to. The prices of 8L S3's are dropping by the day and you can get a tidy one with 80k on the clock for about £7000 easily.
Got rid of mine before it was worth less than i paid for it 
A few simple mods can really make a great deal of difference to the S3.
Brakes - the standard brakes are underpowered and suffer badly from brake fade after a bit of heavy right-foot action.
Leon cupra R brembos are a straight swap (had these on my 1st S3) or you can go bigger again - like the Porsche setup i had on my last S3 - big bucks though £1700!!
The ride on a standard car is a bit wallowy and un-involving, bilstein shocks, and either Eibach or H&R springs do the job perfectly, lots of people upgrade the ARBs too to either R32 setup or aftermarket meant to make a huge difference too.
Then once your car brakes and handles properly - get it remapped
a 225 S3 should see 265bhp from a remap and about 300 ft.lbs of torque.
for this, get a custom map, not a generic piece of shit. MTM, custom code etc all do this
