BHP and PS is the same. PS is just German for "horsepower".

Alright, it's "almost the same".
But PS stands for Pferdestärke, which translates to horse strength.

Does that mean the German Horses were originally stronger than English?

English horses are stronger, there's 9.87 to every 10.01 German ones.
That's why we won.

Is this a bit similar to us doing 0-62mph now, as it's the same as 0-100kmh?

'We' don't, you'll just find that it's quoted in magazines (particularly on cars from mainland Europe) as the manufacturer's figure is for 0-100km/h rather than 0-60mph. It's easier to quote a 0-62mph time than calculate the 0-60mph time.
The short answer is that automotive journalists are lazy fuckers.
