In a straight line they are not the quickest, wouldnt say they are slow though- round a corner and under braking there isnt much that will live with them. I would say they are one of the easiest cars on the market to drive at the limit and thats a big plus in my book. They take some getting used to because unless you keep it over 5k revs in every gear you arnt driving it right.

I would love to have the megane 2.2 litre turbo as an option-- I believe that is on its way in the form of a 197r

Your mate can't be the greatest of drivers to be fair.

Have you driven one?

To be fair, it's not fast, and most owners would admit that

Have driven one and previously had a 172 Cup which I would hazard a guess was a damn site quicker than an Ecotec Sri aswell. They are certainly not world beaters but they are a pretty nippy motor and I be very surprised to see the cav go past one if driven by drivers of equal ability. Weren't the Sri Ecotecs about 140bhp??

Well I was in the cliop, and it was screaming, and the cavalier was pulling away.

Yes I was surprised, but seen it with my own eyes

To be fair mate- I believe what you are saying but it does seem strange to me. I am not calling your mate a bad driver but I know from experiance that you have to be in the correct power band to get the most out of the clio- and if he got his ass owned by the cav then I doubt he was.

Your mate was driving a lighter car with 50bhp more and he got owned... I think your mate needs to get his car looked at because something doesnt seem right.

The clio is quicker than my cooper s was in a straight line, its a hatchback with 200bhp so I dont think it is quite as slow as you are making out. In the grand scale of things it is a quick car. There are not many cars for under £20k that would beat it round a track imo.

Take a look at its Nurbergring times if you want a better idea of its pace-= you will be suprised what it is keeping up with around corners.

Dont want to effect the handling in any way- if I get 18's it will need lowering which means coilovers as well- dont really want to go down that route as it can lead to warrante isues as well

i doubt 18"s will affect that handling that badly. More the ride than anything.
Unless the 18"s are THAT much heavier i dount the un-sprung mass will be much more

I reckon a set of white SuperTurismo's (WRC) or Pro Race 1.2's would look spot on! Both strong, light wheels too!

More an issue that if I put 18's on it will need lowering- which I dont really want to get into.
