Seriously put the standard airbox back on, i did it and took out the stupid restrictor and it is much smoother now through the revs, feels very slightly faster but more boring because with the cone it was crap low down and then sort of "boosted" at higher revs which felt more fun. Also my K+N cold air feed pipe is exactly the same size as the airbox inlet so i've got a nicer cold air pipe

Now just need a pipercross panel filter or something and see what happens.

well technically it allows more air into the engine while still providing the same filtration. foam filters generally being the prefered method... surly you knew that

none as far as i know, a standard air filter lets just as much air in than is needed on even a 1/2 tuned engine.. you only really need to upgrade on turbo cars as the air goes straight into the turbo and also a higher filtration of shite would be prefered.

tbh wen i put a pipercross on my old car then took it off for an airbox it was alot better as it just sooked in all the heat and made my car run shite. Saying that i now have a bmc with air pipe and its fine, slightly boggy right down the revs but you cant really tell

well technically well really im talking more theoretical here..

an airbox covers the filter.. so it doesnt get heatsoak.. as cold air is more dence than hot so more o2 is present better burning etc etc..

if you just have an open filter near the engine its likely to suffer from heatsoak..

i have a K&N on the 2.2 and its situated in the side of the car with a direct airflow over it and no hot air from the engine gets to it meaning i have a good system thats always cool..

your best bet i think if to get a foam panel filter and slap that in your airbox with a decent enough feed to the box..

dont worry about it mate, probly no difference..

its just all theoretical and hearsay..

end of the day the colder the air in your engine the better.. but you need to balance that with a good filtration..

kits like ITG, BMC and Piper offer this
