he hit someone elses car 2 months ago and still hasnt paid up for the repair, if it was me id be round there shaking him by his ankles till the money fell from his pockets if i had to wait 2 months. isuzu man did this lad a favour by not bothering with insurance but i bet he thinks he made a mistake now.

Quite the opposite, you caused it therefore the person whose property you damaged generally decides. You've saved hundreds not going through the insurance, painting the bumper properly WILL have cost hundreds, he has the legal right to have it repaired by whoever he appoints, he could have taken it to Rolls Royce if he had wanted to, he could have sued you for a hire car, interest on your loan off him, loss of earning if it's a work vehicle, loads of stuff.
In essence, it does't matter if he puts the £200 in his pocket and walks away laughing, you've been lucky to not come out a lot worse than your current position.
Unfortunate, but you must accept blame for damage and if surrender your rights and the protection offered by your insurer, go with whatever the other guy decides.
If 150£ type as you talk can do it for a fiver, they should go in to business, with margins like that they'll be a millionaire in no time. Or out of business because their work was so shocking. You can't have it both ways, and you can't insist that you benefit just because someone else who you appointed is able to get a bargain, if indeed they are.

That is rubbish.
You can easily get a scuff fixed for much less that 200£ ok 5er was an exageration i dunt pay shit for my car to be fixed thats another story..
this guy is in his legal rights not to pay without a recipt. i might be a woman but im right. im not an idiot, much to everybodys upset!
Iain, you could walk away from all this as the mupept has got it fixed now so no real proff jsut his word against your, not sumit you wanna do thow!
the fact is no recipt no payment.... that is exactly how id stand...
you just wouldnt give somebody 200£ qitout proof. ud be mental too..

Whether you're a woman or not is beside the point, this is an informal agreement which Iain has entered in to without prejudice.
If the Police got hold if it you're talking about Road Traffic Act obligations to notify an insurer, perhaps even criminal damage if the means to rectify are withheld, very iffy indeed and I wouldn't want to delay things any further. If he gets the Police involved, which will mean involving an insurer anyway, it will cost a significant amount more than £200.
Whether you get a receipt is not an issue for me. Whether you open a can of worms and leave yourself in a worse position is my reasoning.
You won't even use the receipt, you'll never have cause to take the work back to the garage. It's just about proving that he got the work done at that price, so what if he didn't. You hit his car.
Ask him to write you one for handing him the cash and sign to say the matter is closed. But don't ask where the money goes, you're not in a position to do so.

200£ thats extreme!!!! and if anybody in eya would pay that amount of money to re-paint a scuff..... wow. silly ppl!
I am a qualified srayer, albeit with Aeroplanes and not cars.
It is far harder to paint in a scuff than people realise, you have to cut the lacquer back over a larger period than you are localising, yu have to prep the area and get a good match (humidity, temperature, air pressure all effect this). If you can do that job, including overheads running a compressor, buying the equipment, primer, top coat, lacquer, tack rags, wet and dry etc and still make some money for your time then you must have more arms than a fucking octopus. It is more likely that you live in a very deluded world though.
A friend of mine reversed into my old GSI at college, it very slightly dinged the wing and cause the front bumper to have a tiny outward bulge. He wanted to pay privately as he was new to driving. I took it to the place I always go (do the repair work for Stratstone Ferrari's etc) and they said the labour to fill etc the wing would be the same as a new wing - it's a no brainer really. New wing it was. The options with the bumper were to rub back the bulge which would then have stood out as the bumper is textured, or to smooth the whole front bumper but then it would have stood out from the rest of the kit, so I had a new GSI bumper as well. It ended up at about £1k to have the car put back to how it was before HE hit it, e went through insurance in the end so I had a hire car for 3 days. I still ended up out of pocket due to missin work though as the hire car company were late getting the car to me.
£200 is a bargain, I would take his hand off and thats coming from someone who wanted a fault accident settle outside of my insurers, it wasn't and the gy frauded it to the tuneof £100k (yes, one hundred thousand pounds) about 6/7 years ago.
I have no doubt Iain will pay it up but for me, I would be delighted that my premiums wont go up for the next few years. Sod the receipt.

I had some wife run into the back of me a few months ago, didnt look much at the time, burst numberplate & a few scrapes. We exchanged details then I said to her i'll get a quote before contacting the insurance incase its not going to cost much & save you having a claim. She said ok. I got the quote, I actually needed buckle taken out of bumper, full bumper painted, number plate & number plate lights......plus a 3hrs or so & VAT. The bill was over £400. I called her she almost choked & said just go through insurance.
What im saying is -
1. Theres nothing sinister about the 3rd party offering to cut you some slack & avoid a claim...id hope to be given the same option myself!!
2. Sometimes repairs cost more than you think.
I'd just pay the man tbh.

I payed the man last night. All sorted. Didn't get a receipt but my conscience got the better of me and i settled it. Some may think i am mad but frankly i don't care. Whats done is done and i feel better for paying.
