A 106 gti comparison, there's an original slant on why not to buy a particular car
At the end of the day a VX220 is fantastic on a track, handles well and is quick 0-60 all these things are common knowledge as well as the fact they are hard to get in and out of and are no use for shopping.

VX220 NA - Great car. Balanced, needs more go. Isn't straightline fast, but it will be vastly faster than a hot hatch. Its about corner speed, and a 220 will carry much more speed through the bend onto the straight.
RE pace, not very fast as said, XE corsa will have it in a straight line.
But that said, the Turbo isn't "That" fast in a straight line either.
Want a straight line car, get a supra. 220 is in Atom/Elise/Xbow territory.

This was my point, i found a 130 bhp elises as a car in a different league to any hothatch, there certainly not slow and although iv never driven a vx220, id imagine it to be similar

The 120 BHP elise is about 100kgs lighter than the 2.2 VX so makes it comparable speed wise, despite it being 25bhp down.
I've got the 2.2 VX and I don't want to go back to a 'normal' car. Yeah it might not be the fastest in a straight line (expect traffic light grand prixes ) but as mentioned above you can carry alot more speed out of corners compared to hot hatches.
The 2.2 is also quite a lazy engine, it pulls from low revs and you can pretty much keep it in fourth gear and it pulls all the way to the limiter.
The only downside is living with the VX through the winter, rubbish heaters mean a misting screen and very cold journeys, a hat and gloves are essential!

Cheers for your help folks, welshdude i've heard about the heater problems and there seems to be a cure for it so hopefully that wont be a problem
Insurance for the wife is just over £300 FC (the same price as her 1.2 punto sporting ) which is a bonus so that aint a problem
There seem to have been a frew recals as well so i'll be checking that they have been done when I view the right car

2.2 is actually a very good engine too. Aluminium made, and also the basis of the VXRacing 2.0 16v Touring car engine, thats been so successfull (hasn't really changed) in about 6 years. (2.2 destroked for a 2.0, give more torque).
Tail happy in the wet too. Doesn't take much for an inexperience driver to spin one
Heaters, pah, wear a jumper n wolly hat. Didn't that bloke from Evo mag have a Caterham softtop all last winter, which he took out every day?
Trick = Buy a bloody good sailing waterproof warm type jacket. And some wolly socks
