Why not let him decide what you need and get it done - you know considering he probably knows best!

Extreme pain can come from the tiniest of holes in a tooth. Depends how much it goes down to the nerve etc. I doubt he would remove a perfectly good tooth on your say so. Besides it doesn't hurt at all having one extracted. Well mine didn't but the root was infected and reduced.

Cheers for those who came with a sensible reply. The tooth already has a filling in and has smashed half the back off.
It's black so i believe it's dead.

I hate the dentist & I have had 10 teeth out

Oooohhh i love the needle
You shouldnt feel much pain during the operation as long as you have a needle, depending on the state of the gum, and the length of the root etc it'll be painful afterwards

i was shitting myself when i had to have one taken out, but iv got a tip/trick for you so that you know you wont feel a thing!!!!
when you go in there he will sit you back into the chair and inject you with something to make your gum numb, now he will test you and do something ( touch your tooth etc) and say '' can you feel that'' say yes and he will inject you again so you know you wont feel anything for sure.
thatssh what i did and i was shocked how quick it was.

I hate the dentist, and dread then needle, but last time I got the needle it didn't hurt at all. Guess it depends on the dentist and/or what exactly he's having to do.
Only reason to pull it out would be because it's cheaper than sorting it or the tooth's just beyond help.
