For anyone who looks into this in the future the best price for getting an R32 to 360BHP is a single, non intercooled turbo conversion pushing 11psi avaliable from the states ror $10,000 (not a bad price IMO)

If you want to stick with a 4 cylinder engine its best to get a 2l Turbo engine and gearbox from an S3 then you can keep the 4wd because the 1.8T engine wont fit the 4wd box, even then you may have issues with the engine change and the CAN bus setup.

S3 were all 1.8T not 2.0T.

Im swinging towards getting a genuine R32 and waiting till spring then ordering the turbo kit. Will be getting some VW mags to see if there are any other options but thats how it stands at the moment

The s3 has a AUQ with 180bhp standard?

as apposed to Jason's ibiza with an AGU that has 150bhp

AUQ's were in the anni petrols and a few golf 1.8ts after that. They are also in the leon cupras and have 180 standard. These had a ko3s turbo which can hold slightly more boost than the lower 150bhp engines (excluding some AUM's which were fitted with a ko3s but didnt have the 180 map.

S3's and leon cupra R's have BAM/AMK and i think there is another one. The early ones had 210 then the latter had 225. These engines had a bigger turbo which is the Ko4 and had different injectors etc.

If you are intent on getting an engine swap, i'd use a leon cupra R/s3/TT 225 engine.

If you are just going to get a 180 engine and do a conversion though look for golf anni's and some 02 and onwards golfs/ Skodia octavia VRS/ibiza cupra/leon cupra/TT.
