This was suggested by somone a while back. It would reduce efficiency and the guys in charge didn't like that.

Plus I think it's one of those features that's put on site for the sake of just having it. It's not that usefull really.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but is there any chance of having the title of the thread in the <title> tag so it appears at the top of the browser?
I often read the thread then halfway through forget what the thread was about

Content preview I personally like and use on other places when it's there, but it makes the pages bigger which is not ideal. I would also have to do some nifty programming to put it in the threads bit (400k rows) instead of the posts bit (5m rows) to make sure it doesn't slow us down. Not impossible tbh and if I could do it without it being annoying I would. Could also make it configurable using Prem Services page if I was feeling really nifty.
Thread title in the title tag is a massive one. I've looked in to this a few times before and both times decided it was too big a job. That said, I have it working on the new base code on WR. Again, not impossible. Helps with bookmarks and backlink things like if you post an item to FB. MIG and others also use it in referral list at the bottom of busy threads.
Got some potential fraud to make a few calls about in a bit but I'll bear it in mind.

It will make it slower, you can't do it without more database reads and more downloads, I just don't think it will be significant.

Cheers for the response Ian - good input as always
If we're not going to have it can we at least agree to make thread names more informative?

i like it on the invision forums i use because they are slow to open the page when you click the link.
but on this there is no reason to have that as this site is fast enough at going back/forwards.

to be fair, most of us trawl this forum, and open every thread anyway Preview isn't needed
Example -> My essay style posts.
People know they're going to open it and find an essay as author = Paul_J
Yet they still open it.
