Well was on holiday last week with a mate and basically he shunted me from behind push in rear bumper and boot. So rang insurance etc etc they said i had to take it to a specific garage which i did who have quoted me 2,000 for a new boot and rear bumper which i think is rather ott insurance company will be rining me back tomorrow about it i believe.
does anyone know whether im allowed to get other quotes from other garages as id rather not have my car written off for such easily fixable damage. also if the car is written off is there any way i can keep it and still be paid out some of the money???

Get a quote, get your mate to pay for it? Leave insurance out of the equation.
You'd be doing him a favour too.

It must be more than just bumper/boot. Must have taken the back panel and/or boot floor too.

You can take it to whoever you want for quote/repairs....dont let them make you think otherwise!
You may be offered to buy it back if its written off at the insurance companies discression.

Is there no damage underneath the surface? It may look like its just a bumper and boot but there could be damage that you can't see?!

isnt there front damage where you hit the other car
i had heard that if your car was wrote off by a third party insurance that you still owned the car afterwards!

Thats because your third party insurance only covers the third party, they won't be paying for your car whether its a write off or not so they obviously won't take it off you.
