If he says its smoking from oil then that generally means its been running low on oil which really isn't good. If an engine is ran that low to the point of smoke stands a chance the head may have crack or even worse the pistons/rings/ cylinders may have damage. Dont buy it.

No simple answer really with this.

Usually the:

valve seals (will smoke coming down the revs)

or

Piston rings (smokes when under load)

Both quite pricey to fix as I have found out

Base it on how cheap you get it and the condition of the rest of the car if you think its worth it

If the rest of the car is absoutley mint then yes. But at the end of the day, its only a Corsa GSI. There're many others for sale with great running engines.

If the shell is good £350 is fair as you could split it and make your money back/be in profit for that if you dont fix it.

As for repairwork it will be £500+ unless you DIY

If its the rings just the set of replacements is about £90

If its local take it for a drive and see whats what

Could be that or a blocked breather pipe as that will make them smoke too.

Although if its been run with mega loads of oil in it long term it wont have done it any favors

probably going to be oil seals or rings as its a common problem at that age and milage. But even at that price you could drop another engine in out of a newer sport or something and still have got a good deal.

it looks tidy from the pics.

Just check undernieth for rot and previous welding. All the obvious things undernieth like brake lines, fuel lines, etc

also go for a little drive listen for any knocks, etc.

common sense really

If it's good condition other than the engine maybe XE it?

Or just stick an X16XE in there

b) brake it and cash the tax
c) swap engine for pea nuts
