Been offered a 52 plate Focus RS with 40k miles for £8,500. Very tempted in getting it - only problem is it's a CAT D. What's anyones views on this? Good deal? Good cars?

Some of them are good, some of them are shit, even though they should all be the same.

If its been fixed properly & your happy to take it on then there is no problem. You pay less for it, you sell it on for less when your finished with it. Theres loads of them on the road so yeah why not, try to findd out what had to be repaired though, be particular with any thats had chassis work.

A CAT D is nothing really. If its been repaired well then thats all that matters.
We bought a CAT D that had a bonnet and wing needing replaced, So its hardly a huge risk.
I'd have a good look over it and if its alright i'd go for it, Bargain price for an awesome car.

As Robin said, apparently some of them are pretty bad, and some awesome...The sort of thing you expect from the French But at the end of the day, take it for a test run, if you like it...Buy it, but remember, being a Cat D means you won't get as much when selling on.

£8500 struck me as very cheap - similar ones which are not CAT D are going for around £11k. Strikes me as a big drop just because it's a CAT D.
Some of you are saying some are shit, some are good - what should I be looking out for i.e. what's shit and good about them?

£8.5k is cheap mate, as said, cat D is usually hardly anything.
as long as it drives fine and looks ok, you shouldn'treally be bothered.

It's not too cheap just because it's a Cat D. As Colin just said, the fact it has been a write off, regardless of what mark, I'd want a 1/4 AT LEAST off the price.
