In some cases maybe, but i've got mates who have been inside and have swore they'd never go back and have been straight and narrow ever since.

nova_gteuk, didn't you say your friend has changed for the better because of the legal system in another post, or was that because of his amazing job at Royal Mail?

Yes i totally agree grassing your own son up is the same as grassing a complete stranger up
And yes im sure the best thing for someone you want to stay on the straight and narrow is send him to a place full of criminals
Anyway had enough arguing this bandwagon malarky is boring you all see it as one sided and dont think of the bigger picture.
Soon see when hes relaeed after a year and a half what worse crimes he commits
Peace out

I don't think jail is ideal but unfortunately for this country, it's the best we've got. Ideally we would put down people like this but sadly that is not allowed. If the penalty for possessing a gun was having the gun used on you, less people would possess guns.
I congratulate the father for upholding the law.

Are you on drugs? I can't believe the naivety of some people. If he had been caught and then released with a community order, in other words he has to clean some paint off a couple of walls, do you think that's going to make him think twice the next time someone offers him money to store a weapon? I don't.
It's the same as being caught speeding, if you're given a verbal warning you drive safely for a few days then it's back to normal. If you get points and a fine it might just change your behaviour.
Personally I think prison is too soft. There are far too many people concerned about the "human rights" of these subhuman scum.

Ash im not saying he shouldnt be punished, thats why imo they should bring back national service.
And tbh being stuckin a room with a tv and a playstaion have my meals made for me have my clothes washed for me not having to work alchohol now and then and drugs on tap..it doesnt sound that bad a place.
My main concern would be after a year and a half whats he going to do then?
Noone would employ him with that on his record,so he would just return to crime
So prison wont solve it at all.

Amen to that.
Or if this prick wants to carry a gun, stick him in the Army and ship him out to Iraq. See if he enjoys being on the other end of the barrel.

Yet more bollocks from you. My Uncle served 5 years for Armed Robbery and has never been unemplyoed since. He owns his own house, has a nice car, follows the England Cricket team all over the world. He's doing alright post-prison.
