Just read the article - he hasnt been sent down yet for any length of time.
I expect as Ash said he'll get minor time and then have a job in the US Militiary if he is that good.
Didn't someone do something similar and end up working for NASA?
A few of the older generation of hackers are now in highly powered jobs for NASA and that.

Are you confusing NASA with the NSA? I don't see why you need hackers in space...

I was generalising. I don't see how space exploration needs hackers, unless its for the programming aspect.

TBH this is silly, 38 years for changing grades ? Surely he'd just get kicked out of school and have any grades he has got thrown out i.e no education.
He's stolen a password from a teacher and a masterkey for the school. Then installed logmein (or similar) on a pc and changed grades from home. Clever TBH, however all the connections from that ip address should be noticed by admins, and unusual log in times etc

its get me as if hes clever enough to do all that how was he getting f's?
My thoughts exactly!!
He could be dyslexic. He could be very intelligent and the work at school was not inspiring him to work. He could also just be plain lazy, but I doubt it considering as he went out and put a lot of effort into pulling this one off.

Nah ed, dyslexia is only an excuse for people who can't spell correctly.

read the comments:
This guy should get the ELECTRIC CHAIR, this type of criminal undermines the very fabric of our society and must be exterminated, mark my words, this is just the start of his crime spree, he will lead a life of crime if he and his mates get away with this, or give him a job in a world bank !

This would be a far better way of dealing with the problem. Why leave someone languishing in prison when they have a talent to do something useful. The kids not a master criminal ffs he cheated on a test

American hacking laws are fucking ridiculous and only go to show that they don't care about the individual, all they care about is corporate America. Yeah the kid shouldn't have done it, but the punishment is out of control.

[Edited on 20-06-2008 by nova_gteuk]
It would appear that he is NOT an elite hacker.
