We're looking at going in Jan and Bulgaria looks to be the cheapest for accomodation and tutorial packs, and with it not being in the euro probably cheaper for food etc... while we're out there.

So just wondered if anyone had been, where they stayed, and whether you'd recommend it.

I've been to all the majour cities. Try and stay away from the coast that seems to be more touristy. I think i liked Vilkoteranova (sp) best but thats not near the skiing

I went to Pamporovo a few years ago. Great place.

However, if your at an intermediate or advanced level...you can be top to bottom of the longest run in 12 minutes if you push it (well i can anyway and i'm nothing special)

Still, its a really nice place

We'd both be beginners, been looking at Borovitz and Pamporovo as that's whats in all the brochures and stuff.

Accomodation wise it's not too much less than France etc, but for the tutorial and hire of equipment etc, it's at least £100 cheaper than the more popular places.

What's it like outside the ski-ing, eating out and all that?

I went to Pamporovo last year with three mates, none of us had boarded before and it was a great place to learn, there is only 1 really challenging run iirc. As said previously you can go top to bottom very quickly once you get the hang of it.

I would recomend the White Hart for a pint!! The night life was awesome when we were there, and dead cheap compared to other countries. I would recommend Pamporovo

Bansko is always well regarded, if you're looking for cheap have you considered Andorra?

Andorra is what i said before pretty much, the accomodation isn't too much, it's the tutuorial packages, in france, italy, austria and to some extent Andorra it was £50-100 more than Bulgaria.

Already looking at £450ish per person for flights, accom and snowboard pack, don't really wanna go much higher!

I heard you got a free AK47 when visiting Bulgarian ski resorts for your generous donation to the local mafia by staying in one of thier hotels.

Its not a cheap hobby mate, thats for sure and cheapest definately doesn't mean best in this case.

Make sure you get a few lessons done at the dome before you go, no point in doing the basics over there.

I had about 5 hours of tuition before my first holiday and that was me away (I was with some pretty experienced mates to help out though)

You'll love it, its uber addictive though

You get training. You have to go and shoot anyone in a one piece, or anyone walking down the street in the resort with thier boots wide un-done, jacket wide open and on thier phone loudly proclaiming how they are in a ski resort and how good the 'pow' is, despite the fact they have spent the whole day on the piste or at the bar, could have just said punter really.

For sure it's not cheap. Especially when you pick up a bad habbit. A habbit where you have decided to try and buy a new suit for every day of the trip

Yeah, not expecting it to be cheap, and we'll get to Tamworth before we go, just want it to cost less rather than more!

Apparently a 3 course meal in Bulgaria is £6 and a bottle of beer £1

Two Seasons in the Westfield looks pretty good for snowboard stuff Bram, i'm guessing it's not very specialised, but had a fair bit in in the Spring on sale, think it's all gone now tho

Yeah, nice guys in there too! Can get things off the net much cheaper if you shop around but nice to have the luxury of taking stuff back if you change your mind/have a problem

If you think you're going to be going more than once (which I guarantee you will )I would definately recommend buying your own gear. Even if its second hand will be better than hiring! Now is the perfect time because it is out of season!

Funny you should say that

Me and my old man were getting pissed with the owners of a small hotel in the middle of nowhere. We started talking about hunting the wild bore and what rifles they all have. One gestured to come and see something. In the cupboard he had a freaking kalashnikova. He handed it to my old man who dropped the mag to see it was loaded
