Quick question really -
Using a number of calculators, ive got my Astra DTi (2litre) as only doing 34MPG on a run I did earlier in the week....
Now the book and parkers states MPG as 49, however I understand this maybe optimistic, so I kind of expect 40 - 45 tbh.
It was a 100 mile roundtrip on single lane 60 roads and the occasional dual carriageway. I had 4 adults in the car and thus had to rev it relatively hard (up to 4k in 1st and 2nd) to get away from roundabouts etc.
Would this lead to drop in my MPG to such a woeful figure, or is it likely summat is bugering me about?

It would affect MPG yes, but being a diesel, not so much imho.
To work out MPG.
Fill up to the brim. Drive until you need to fill up again. Make a note of the miles covered before filling up. Then get a receipt with the litres on. This is how many litres you've used for that period of miles.
Litres x 0.22 = gallons.
Miles / gallon figure = MPG

Aye i mean its not a wholly accurate thing so far, however Im doing a 500 mile week next week so I will fill up at the start of the week (50 litres) and see how far I can get, and yer i know dont let it run out cos it fucks diesels up

Then after the 500mile trip (or during) make a note of the litres and work it out how I said

Seems abit steep! Hve you worked it out. Remember there is 4.54 litres in a UK gallon. There is 3.78 in a US gallon. This will effect your figure....

Fill it to the click. Reset trip. Do your journey. Fill again fromt he click. Then work out how many gallons you used. Divide by the miles done. Sound job

Aye I have but in a crude way - not by using actual litres. Basically I used 1/4 of a tank (by the gauge) doing 100 miles on this trip, 52/4 = 13l x 0.22 = 2.86gal
100/2.86 = 35MPG I think I was just a little hard on the throttle tbh, like i say I will check next week. Thanks for the 'formula' deano. I understand this is a crude way of doing it so its not wholly accurate but it wont be too far out surely.....
